CONCEPT AND ROLE OF TOLERANCE IN INDIAN CULTURE

Tolerance stands for an attitude of mind and indicates a  virtue bordering on graceful acceptance of the different and   even the hostile; but in ordinary usage it also slightly smacks  of supercilious condescension. "Toleration'' is an allied word  meaning an act which figures in historical situations in which  differing or warring elements try to jockey themselves into  favoured positions with minimum cost to their dignity or  principles. The two ideas are, however, so confusedly used  as to lose the 'distinction altogether.

Are Ghosts Real? Science Says No-o-o-o

If you believe in ghosts, you’re not alone: A 2005 Gallup poll found that 37 percent of Americans believe in haunted houses, and about one-third believe in ghosts. Tens of thousands of people around the world actively search for ghosts as a hobby. Researcher Sharon Hill of the Doubtful Newsblog counted about 2,000 active amateur ghost-hunting groups in America.

The triple grand festivals of Tamils in  Dubai  were celebrated in Shiek Rasheed auditorium at Dubai on 9th February 2013.

Dr. K. Veeramani, the leader of the Dravidar Kazhagam, Ms. Mohana Veeramani, Mr. A.K.S. Vijayan DMK Parliament Member from Nagapattinam,  and Mr. T. Veera Sekaran advocate were given a warm welcome at the Dubai Airport by a huge gathering  of Tamils, Dr. A.S. Moorthy, the Founder President of the Dubai Tamils’ Association and the President S. Amudharasan.

MAHA KUMBH FAITH DERAILED?

Newspaper reports point out to thirty six pilgrims, who came to Sangam for their appointment with death in a stampede  at Allahabad.  More than ten millions had already  visited  with larger number expected  before the end of February for having a dip  in the confluence of  the holy river Ganges, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswathi.

The campus  of  Periyar Maniammai University was agog with streams  of young visitors unloaded by a number of school buses from,  in and around Thanjavur.  Nobody ever dreamt that nearly a lakh of students would visit the campus on all the three days from 21st to 23rd of January, 2013. This three – day festival is partly coincidental to the year – long celebration  of the Silver Jubilee of the  university which is in  the offing.
