STEPHEN HAWKING

Stephen William Hawking is a British theoretical physicist, cosmologists and author.   Among his significant scientific work have been a collaboration with Roger Penrose on gravitational singularities theorems in the frame work of  general relativity.   His theoretical prediction that black holes emit radiation, is often called as Hawking radiation.  He was the first to set forth a cosmology explained by a union of general theory of relativity and quantum mechanics.

The conference assumed significance by the clarion call given for Eradication of Castes by its President Dr.K.Veeramani. The agitation programme announced  which would result in courting of arrest of many DK Cadres and their imprisonment.

ASGHAR ALI ENGINEER’S STRUGGLE FOR PRESERVATION OF PLURAL ETHOS

We lost Asghar Ali Engineer on 14th May 2013. It is an irreplaceable loss to human rights movement, anti communal struggle, to the movement for preservation of secular values. This is a small tribute to my esteemed, close and very dear friend.

The events of last over three decades have shown us, more than before that the efforts of dividing the nation by communal forces have been a major obstacle to social peace and process of development. In India while the communal violence began with the Jabalpur riot of 1961, it is from last couple of decades especially from 1980s that the divisive politics has tried to drive a wedge between different communities along religious lines.

Q: Did you grow up with religion?

Ans: I was born in Mexico, which is 100 per cent Catholic, where the Church has extreme power over everybody. Mine was not a churchgoing family, my mother was a believer but she was not very religious. My father was an atheist, both were refugees from the Spanish Civil War. I did believe when I was young. You are bombarded with all these things about sin, about going to heel, all these bad things that are going to happen to you if you don’t believe.
