The reason why I have been often talking about religion is that during the time I have devoted for social welfare, I have learnt that human progress is obstructed only by the activities carried on, in the name of religion. It is said that everyone must have a religion. If that is right the religion to which a man belongs must be able to bring him some practical benefits.

Groomed by her father Ziauddin Yousafzai, a progressive poet running a school, from her little age. Yousafzai is the name of the tribal federation who inhabit that area from time immemorial.
In contemporary life, we have to constantly face contradictions between science on the one hand and dogma of various kinds on the other. Dogmatic beliefs, like science, have come to be a part of our very existence.
Arising out of unquestioned acceptance of religion, custom, convention or tradition, they have, over generations, acquired an authority out of all proportion. Fortunately, of course, everything in religion, custom, convention and tradition is not dogma.

Intolerance is a disvalue for it is detrimental to civilized living. Intolerance springs from the feeling of hatred towards others. It is grounded on the idea of discrimination and segregation. Intolerance gives rise to cruelty, aggressiveness and degrading treatment of others by individuals or social groups.
Rise of intolerance between social groups may lead to conflict, violence, terrorism, riot etc. Intolerance between nations may lead to war or destructive scenario. So intolerance at any level – may it be an individual, a group or a nation – is not a desirable ideal. More it is reflected in social life, social harmony and happiness remain more at stake.
The great humanist and eminent social revolutionary Periyar E.V.Ramasamy associated himself with public activities at various social planks with utmost sincerity during his earlier days and associated himself formally with Congress Party in 1919.
Due to the tactful discriminative treatment meted out and suppressive measures adopted against the socially stratified masses at lower rung Periyar felt that it would not be ideal to continue in Congress Party and left it in 1925, on humanistic ground.
